Frequently Asked Questions

Breathwork is the conscious manipulation of your breath for a desired purpose. In short, you inhale and exhale in a specific way to get a certain result (stress relief, relaxation, emotional release, clarity, etc.)

Our lives begin with our first breath and end with our final breath. We all breathe!
We have an incredible free tool within our bodies to help us manage stress, regulate our nervous sytem, and promote incredible overall health and wellbeing.
The list of scientifically studied physical benefits is numerous:
Improves sleep and increases energy levels
Stress relief and deep relaxation
Improves mood, and reduces anxiety and depression
Enhances breathing function and immune function
Relief from physical pain
While the physical benefits are amazing, the emotional and mental benefits that can come from a transformational session are even greater.
I’ve (and thousands of others) have had some of my biggest breakthroughs, moments of clarity, deep healing and inner peace in these sessions.

The list of benefits that you may experience from breathwork is extensive, but some of the most common reasons people learn breathwork techniques are for stress reduction, improved sleep quality, emotional release, trauma healing, clarity, and access to the subconscious.
-
During breathwork sessions, you are controlling your breath. The methods I instruct allow you to tap into different states of consciousness and utilize the body’s natural healing capabilities (just like how a scab forms when you cut yourself).
There’s a lot that happens physiologically during a session, and these changes are what ultimately help you tune out the ego and active thinking part of your brain so you can tap into your intuition and access your subconscious.

When you’re new to these types of sessions, it’s really important to work with an experienced guide (like me!) to ensure you’re doing the technique properly. This doesn’t mean we have to do that in person - I can still effectively do this with an online session if your camera is pointing at you.
But once you’ve worked with a guide and understand how your body responds, you could absolutely do full sessions on your own.
However, even though I’ve personally been doing these types of sessions for years, I often will still do full sessions with someone guiding me. The reasons being:
Someone else is holding space for me
I can tap into the collective energy of a group session
The verbal guided coaching can help me go deeper into my subconscious.
It’s also great to learn shorter, daily breathwork practices, and once you known them, you can do those on your own.

The short answer is yes! However, there are many different breathwork techniques, and some techniques are not advisable for people with certain medical conditions.
Be sure to read the event description prior to participating. View the contraindications page for more detailed information about.

In transformative sessions, I use circular breathing techniques, which is connected breathing that involves breathing in and out through the mouth in a circular pattern.
These are designed to activate the sympathetic nervous system state to allow for emotional release and processing. This is typically an inhale expanding the belly, then another inhale expanding the chest, and then releasing and letting it go on the exhale. I also provide modification options during the session.
In restorative sessions, I use techniques that are designed to slow the body down and naturally go into the parasympathetic nervous system state (also known as the rest and digest state).
In these sessions, the inhales are all intentionally done through the nose. The techniques I use vary in these sessions, but some include box breathing, 5-5, 4-7-8, and 5-15 hum.

Nope! People have been practicing breathwork for thousands of years, having roots in yoga practice. It’s not new, and as long as we rely on breathing for being alive, breathwork will always remain incredibly important and effective.

Great question! I’ve laid out all of my tips for both online and in-person sessions on the page: Prepare for Your Session.

This really depends on how quickly you want to dive into transformation and growth. There’s no right or wrong amount.
Some breathing techniques are wonderful to practice daily even for just a few minutes to tap into relaxation.
If you’re looking for emotional healing, trauma release, etc., you want to use some discretion on your frequency.
I wouldn’t necessarily recommend doing a transformational session every day, but I’d also recommend more than one a year.
It’s all about finding your sweet spot. Most people fall in the zone of one transformational session every 1-3 months. Restorative sessions could even be every 1-3 weeks, depending on your situation.
For me, I know that if I’m starting to feel anxious or feeling more stress that it’s time to do a session.
-
The short answer is yes! But remember, breathwork is a big umbrella term that houses all different breathing techniques. So it’s finding the technique that works for you.
For transformational sessions, if you don’t have any major health issues (or contraindications) and you’re willing to work through whatever may come up for you, then it can definitely be for you!
